The Legal Assistant will be responsible for legal document preparation, communication, administrative assistance, and supporting the legal team in various tasks. 1-2 days in office per week required with the option to work remotely all other days.

This is a full-time hybrid role for an Associate Attorney at Burrows + Stutsman LLP. The Associate Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice, conducting research, negotiating on behalf of clients, drafting legal documents, taking and defending depositions, and attending hearings, mediations, and trials. Associates work hand in hand with senior attorneys and are given appropriate autonomy in their case handling while still receiving the mentorship they need to grow in their capabilities as litigators.

• 0-3 years civil litigation experience (personal injury a plus)

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

We are looking for candidates with experience supervising younger attorneys and a drive to take on a leadership role within our growing firm. The Senior Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice, conducting research, negotiating on behalf of clients, drafting legal documents, taking and defending depositions, and attending hearings, mediations, and trials. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional legal support and leadership for our attorneys, contributing to the growth and development of our practice, and ensuring the highest level of service to our clients. • Comprehensive management of a full case load of pre-litigation and active litigation files.
• Draft legal documents including pleadings, discovery, discovery motions, dispositive motions, and trial preparation documents.
• Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for meetings, depositions, and negotiations, providing valuable insights and strategic advice.
• Conduct legal research to advise clients of the merits of their claims and those asserted against them.
• Negotiate with clients, opposing counsel, and other interested parties to resolve legal disputes and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
• Communicate with clients regarding case status and strategy.
• Offer strategic guidance and support to junior attorneys, contributing to their professional growth and development.

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California
• 4+ years of experience practicing law, with a focus on civil litigation (insurance defense a plus)
• Proficiency in legal research software, including Westlaw and CoCounsel, and a willingness to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
• Experience in legal research and analysis
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• A strong understanding of legal procedures and the ability to apply them in a variety of contexts
• A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct
• Trial experience not required, but is a plus
